Vaginismus
Involuntary pelvic floor muscle spasm that makes penetration painful — and is treatable.
What is Vaginismus?
Vaginismus is a condition where involuntary muscle spasms in the pelvic floor make vaginal penetration painful or impossible. It can affect tampon use, pelvic exams, and intercourse.
Vaginismus is treatable. Care is delivered with privacy, sensitivity, and at a pace led by you.

When to see us
If any of these sound familiar, booking a consultation is worth your time.
- →Pain or impossibility with vaginal penetration — intercourse, tampon use, or pelvic exams?
- →Anxiety or fear around penetration that has built up over time?
- →Tried to address this elsewhere without finding the right specialist support?
How we treat it
Pelvic floor therapy is the foundation — releasing the spasm patterns and rebuilding voluntary control of the pelvic floor.
We pair this with gradual desensitisation, working at the pace you set. Medical and CBT components are coordinated where they will help.
Sex therapy and counselling support are signposted when emotional or relational dimensions are part of the picture. Vaginismus rarely lives in just the body, and treatment respects that.
