Lymphedema

What is Lymphedema?
Lymphedema is chronic swelling, usually in the arms or legs, due to a buildup of lymph fluid. It often results from cancer treatment, infections, or congenital factors.
Common causes include cancer treatment (lymph node removal, radiation), infections that damage the lymphatic system, congenital conditions where lymphatic vessels are underdeveloped, surgery or trauma to lymph nodes, and obesity.

How we treat it
Treatment combines Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD), compression therapy with bandages or fitted garments, and graded exercise to move fluid out of the affected limb.
Skin care is non-negotiable — fragile skin in a swollen limb is prone to infection. We coach the protective routines that keep cellulitis at bay.
For more advanced cases we layer pneumatic compression devices, and in select cases coordinate with surgeons for lymph node transfer or bypass.
